Coming in 2020 The Brass Pockets Live! The Brass Pockets are be celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the "Pretenders" self-titled debut album in 2020 by performing the entire album Live! In January 1979, the Pretenders released their first single which was a cover of a lesser known number by the Kinks "Stop Your Sobbing." Nick Lowe produced the first single, but decided not to continue working with the band, as he thought that the band was "not going anywhere". Chris Thomas took over the subsequent recording sessions. Their second single "Kid" was released in June, followed by "Brass In Pocket" in November. By January 1980, "Brass In Pocket" had hit #1 in the UK. The Pretenders self-titled debut studio album was released just weeks into the new decade of the eighties, it debuted at #1 in the UK, and went platinum in the U.S. "Pretenders" was a commercial success worldwide, reaching the Top 10 on a half dozen album charts in 1980, and is now considered a classic of the post-punk period of the late 70's/ early 80's, not punk, not new wave, not power pop, but drawing on all three genres to create a sound that was uniquely the band's own.
